I have a grandad who is still alive who had guns pointed at his face for calling Derry "Derry" instead of "Londonderry" at a british checkpoint on the border of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Used to get beaten up by police in the UK for being Irish too.

On January 5th 1867, the SS Falcon set sail from the Broomielaw for Londonderry, with 63 crew and passengers on board.

The ship foundered in Machrihanish Baym. Only the master, Captain Hudson, fireman James Urie, and second mate Hugh O'Donnell made it safe to shore, with all other 60 lives lost.
