An annual tradition at my parents' house. ❄️
My father weaving a "Shimenawa" (sacred New Year rope) while the cat... helps?
It's a special ritual to welcome the new year with a fresh spirit.

Love it when it snows all day long and then you get rattled by an earthquake to end the day. So goes #LifeInJapan. That one was rather mild but quite close to me, centered around Mt. Fuji's five lakes.

Happy political trucks ruining your nap, your recording session, your music listening session and more (basically your weekend) for those who celebrate.

(I guess it's an appetizer for Takaichi ruining our lives starting on Monday)

I was running low on cups so I bought some more.
It’s those classic glass cups you always see at ramen shops in Japan.
They are so durable that I have been using them for more than ten years.

One thing I love about Japan: I forgot my mouse in the classroom last Friday (on the engineering campus where I am only on Friday afternoons)
One week later, it was waiting for me.

Twisted konnyaku is the best konnyaku. If only because you can actually grab it with chopsticks without turning the whole thing into an exercise of self-control and precision.

Takamatsu is building a luxury hotel in the port. They'd better have a room for me when the Nankai earthquake hits. (yes, this is the kind of thing you casually think about when you live in Japan)

Prefectures asked to secure hotels as shelters in the event of disasters
Guidelines call on local officials, mainly at prefectural governments, to work to secure accommodation and match it with evacuees.

I don't know how I escaped it for so many years, but that's it. It has happened! I can check it off my "Japan Bucket List".

What am I talking about?

Having to fill up an administrative document on... Excel...
