In the final days of WWII, the USSR drafted a plan to invade Hokkaido via south Sakhalin and occupy everything north of a line between Rumoi and Kushiro but it never went ahead.
It was never feasible then, and it isn't now either. Anyway, MacArthur was adamant that Japan would not be divided.
