My favourite find was an #Owlfly larvae. I dont spot these often, so always a thrill when I do. Very similar to the lacewing larvae, aka antlion/junkbug

The micro #fungi that swarm vacant #lacewing junkbug piles are as diverse as they are mysterious to me. This one I just collected on a lantana leaf. #fungifriends

If I ever post something as a junkbug pile and its not. I wont be angry with corrections, I will be impressed. Is it instead a plant hopper egg cluster or insectivorous marsupial scat or an exploded wasp plant gal or? Bring me into the light! The ID of fungi substrates is half the fun :)

ID's can be messy, the older the sample gets. Even genetics can be messy when the contaminants material vastly outnumbers the original animal or zombie fungis material. The last photo shows 3 junkbug piles in various stages of being consumed by opportunistic fungi

Amazing! Now I need to write a junkbug pile haiku. 🤭

oooh! That is a lacewing larva (I'm pretty sure) - make sure that little junkbug gets whatever it wants! It is a voracious predator of bugs we generally are not fans of, like aphids.

One of my favorite critters to watch at work when it’s slow. Junk bugs are so cute, just try not to think about what that trash hat is made out of 😬 #junkbug #insects #zoo #entomology
