Not really - it was part of an arc that started with WW2 destruction and wound up here

The Thatcher period was one of de-industrialisation and increasing inequality funded till 2008 by rising GDP

As it was in the rest of W Europe

I am sceptical Thatcher "willed" it into being

Working hard ≠ turning to alcoholism but I think the rapid and brutal industrialisation of Britain under capitalism turned us into to a nation of alcoholics where there has never been much room for a sober movement tbh. Combined with pub culture it's pretty much political suicide to campaign

I think there are lots of questions that need to be revisited when we are talking about industrialisation of our cognitive environment rather than physical objects. When you get a blunt razor blade or a spoiled bottle of wine you notice; when you get bad information or decisions you might not.
