Yes they do. "Sahara" refers to a specific desert, not any desert in general. "Sharia" refers to a specific kind of law, not any law in general. And "chai" refers to a specific kind of tea from India. This is how everybody but the most insufferable pedants understands these words whenused inEnglish.
