i'm thinking of setting up an application that uses MPRIS, LRCLIB, and if possible (E)LRC files to show lyrics for currently playing music. It seems simple enough that it might be a good chance to try out Vala, the GNOME/GTK/GObject-native programming language.

It’s actually so fucked up that this is what GNOME is (GNU Network Object Model Environment) and that Gtk to this day implements objects in pure C with gobject.
okay I do kinda love OOP but it is very funny in retrospect how many companies and projects went on a death march to Objects in the 1980s-2000s

"The structure and design of most gtk-rs crates is often a bit different from most other Rust crates. Because GTK is based on GObject, a C library that implements object-oriented programming, the gtk-rs developers had to come up with some clever ideas to integrate the C code into Rust."

GLib-GObject-CRITICAL on Steam games made by Curve Digital glib gobject errors are from glib2 and/or lib32-glib2 respectively (they are not and have no relation to glib c ) but these errors can show up during normal operation so I'm strongly assuming a ...

The more I dig into GObject the more cursed it gets…

Well that's something new. Must be a circular dependency between glib-2.82.4,2 and gobject-introspection@bootstrap, but I'm not entirely sure which port to file a bug against; I suspect gobject-introspection. #FreeBSD
