#git-instance
god i wish sourcehut was easy to selfhost. unfortunately to do so you need like 6 other services running.

i haven't used sourcehut builds but i've heard very good thing about them, and if you selfhost the entire git instance they can't force you to pay ( they're not gitlab )

www.reddit.com: LaTeX and iPadOS

Hi, I looked at other topics but couldn't exactly find what I'm looking for, so I'm creating a new post. I have a MacBook with VSCode and LaTeX Workshop. I really love it. I also have a Git repository on a GitLab instance. It's all going great. I now have an...

Which – of COURSE I don’t have git installed, I use my Windows machine to ssh into my RHEL Linux instance where I have git. But I couldn’t figure out how to install gh on my RHEL instance (just use “yum” or whatever that new installer is?)

i haz public git server now! git.tacohiro.systems

this is only for my public projects though. internally i'm using a private forgejo instance (hooray tailscale). had to mess around with linux acls a lil, and my setup is pretty cursed atm lol.

finally gonna start gradually moving away from github!

Here's the flow I use.

1. Set up a custom command in .opencode/command/git-commit

2. Instruct it to generate a git message

3. Inside an OpenCode instance, I just run this command.

For instance, any time you do a `git commit` or a `git checkout` or whatever, `HEAD` changes, and when this happens, an entry in `HEAD`'s reflog. You can refer back to those entries with `git reflog [ref]`, but you can also refer to them in rev syntax with `ref@{specifier}`.

Shit, with a forgejo instance I could even build the updated images in CI so “git push” queues updates for the next auto update pull.

Ended up getting a Fairphone which was altogether too expensive from the US retailer. Not a Linux phone, but de-Googled at least.

That does mean that, per this post, the git plugin still doesn't work. I learned about the Git-Sync app to sync without the local git instance and so far it is glitchy.
At this point I'm considering a linux phone just because the Obsidian-git plugin doesn't work mobile git implementations, and I want to offload my brain on every device

...also it could be cool

could be pretty cool
That's always the question 😄 There's another question I haven't had my eye on- linux for mobile phones 👀

Not degoogled android, just straight up linux. I've been looking into phones that have better security at the hardware level, and the reputable ones are more often linux than degoogled android 😲

new plan: dont host your own git instance dumbass
i am going to try to run:

- a docker manager
- a gitea instance
- 1, maybe 2 instances of a small social media site

So like, I'm trying to update my installs of #gnunet and #gnunetmessenger, and for some reason, going to git.gnunet.org only opens up a video from a talk at the Future Finance Fest, talking about GNU Taler and whatnot.

Seems kind of dumb to temporarily take down your entire git instance just to […]

I‘m not sure I understand why people are so keen to move off of GH - even as someone who uses a private GitLab instance for work stuff, Git is by nature decentralised, so it‘s not like there‘s really any vendor lockin?

Really like the ideas #tangled has for PRs. It's not exactly patch based. But still, considerably better than branch PRs #github ruined the world with. 😅

I may have to spin an instance up to fully appreciate. So maybe.. copy and put in a different #git server. 😉

Devs you are going too slow

1 Claude Code instance

Maybe 2

I spawned 6 git worktrees

One for each microservice

To finally get this creator app over the line

I'm curious, because I had been (probably mis)led to think that connecting LFS to an Artifactory instance, and having artists use a GUI to work with Artifactory without a repo, would let them do their thing while Git users could still have direct asset access. Could anything fix that split?

The workspace thing, all in one VS Code instance, I have been thinking about, also with containerized workspaces

(git worktree & @dagger.io)

The knowledge stuff should support both people and agents contributing, not just agents (imho)

Too many of these products want to remove the human-in-loop

getting a local overleaf instance set up was surprisingly easy. bummer that there's no git integration in the community edition, but manual version control isnt that bad for what i'm doing

My contributions across #forgejo instances far outweighs my contributions to #github in recent years.

Took forever to get the git plugin for Godot working with my self-hosted Gitea instance, but now that I'm able to push from within the editor, it's time to start learning how to make things work. Oh, in case you've ever wanted a headless hockey player bent over, I got you.

Mine is

A look into my #gamedev bug backlog

I host my own #git instance via @gitea.com, and keep a rolling versioning of everything, so no source mistakes this time around.

New instance, new #introduction :3

I’m Lunya, a very silly transfem catgirl. I write code which I host on my Git forge and I also put videos on YouTube and some of them on PeerTube.

All interactions with me are platonic. I might infodump about my projects or interests. I will boost yuri, and […]
