This unassuming piece of orange earth is believed to be a section of the mantle of the earth raised 30 miles from below our feet by the tectonic forces of plates colliding. We knew we were in the right place because we found old geological core holes drilled in the rock we'd seen mentioned in a geotourism writeup of the place!
