Five years ago this week I was watching a pterodactyl (OK, it's a pileated woodpecker 😂). Wonder if I can find one this weekend? #birds #fromthearchives
The frame is full of a network of bare brown and grey branches and just left of centre there is a huge black and white woodpecker with a flame-red crest. The bird is gripping a thick tree trunk and there is obvious evidence of its ongoing excavation.

Mr. Slate form Dark-eyed Junco was also a fan of the bamboo perch in my old yard!

While Oregon has WAY more Oregon form Juncos - Slate form also enjoy life in the PNW.
