FBRef being down due to Cloudflare has really Pavlov'd me and now I don't know what to do with myself
November 18, 2025 at 1:47 PM
Huh. FBREF has HAO playing 88 mins at RB in the 2019 NWSL final w/ NC Courage, her final NWSL match. She played in the midfield in 2015 NWSL final w/ Kansas City FC. She also played 4 mins in the 2018 final w/ Courage, but position isn’t listed.

HAO never played forward (or CB) in an NWSL final.

Same name appears throughout this FBRef list for 2019.

I was wondering why Sonia has been starting Wieke Kaptein so much, and I looked at FBRef the other day and her npxG+xGA per 90 is 0.89 which puts her in the 99th percentile of all attacking midfielders in the WSL, so it seems the kid can play ball.
November 16, 2025 at 12:14 PM
They also have us 16th on xGD which is still better than FBref, I was bored so i did what would have happened last year with this years overperformance on top of our numbers. We would have had 69 points and a +41 (including rounding)

Cristian Espinoza has been one of the best players in MLS in recent years, sometimes overlooked because of San Jose's poor league finishes. Should be plenty of teams interested in him.

Per @fbref.com, only five players have recorded the following in a Premier League game (since 2017/18):

✪ 3+ shots on target
✪ 3+ key passes
✪ 3+ passes into penalty area
✪ 3+ carries into penalty area
✪ 3+ successful take-ons
✪ 3+ fouls won

Jérémy Doku is the youngest.

This year *felt* like an odd year in the NWSL, with KC winning the shield faster than ever and being ahead of 2nd place by more points than each of the bottom two teams earned all season. So, I took a look at the Points Per Match Played (Pts/MP in FBRef, PPG for Alex) across the league to see...
Prepping for today's @chgo-stars.bsky.social show... I couldn't find a compiled list of the worst seasons in NWSL history.
So, by PPG, here are all the teams that were worse than the Stars (and Bay FC) were this year #NWSL

If we take from when VDV got injured until and i am maybe being generous here to last season to when we won the second leg of the europa so weeks 11-35 we were performing at -0.36 we are currently performing between -0.37 or -0.38 depending on fbref or opta analyst.
November 10, 2025 at 2:07 PM
Big fan of Opta Analysts xG table it has us 16th for xG difference over 17th in fbref. Think it’s safe to say we are so back.
November 10, 2025 at 12:14 PM
Fbref have us 17th for xG difference

Opta analyst has 16th for xG difference and 17th for xPoints.

It is quite funny we are 5th while having numbers in keeping with our league finish last year.

They are still up on the collapse last season but massively down on the overall season

Website is fbref I can get a comparison graphic of the two when I get to my computer. But they couldn’t be more different in profile.

Per Zach Lowe, "just something i'm watching"...👀

Signs of variety from Brennan Johnson (?)

Rogue dribble vs EVE (1/1) & yday 2/4 successful take-ons (Last 365d per fbref he's @ .85 p90)

Also, the respectable left foot cross for Richy on 16m

Anyone else seeing this? Wishful thinking? #coys 🐓🤍

As does Fbref

Fbref is a stats site that uses opta data. We were terrible defensively i am saying we weren't when we had the two CBs played they are that good. We are at 1.38 this season so far all in all need to wait for the update for individual players
November 8, 2025 at 7:34 PM
i dont know what fbref is.
the fact is we conceded tye 2nd most goals in prem league era
November 8, 2025 at 7:31 PM
Our defensive numbers were good with the two CBs heck we were a +0.5 xGD side with Romero and +0.82 with VDV, we are currently at -0.36 overall, need fbref to update to say the numbers with each.
November 8, 2025 at 7:28 PM
Chelsea game was our 4th highest xG conceded since 17-18 when fbref have the data from. We went into this weekend 16th on xGA.
November 8, 2025 at 7:25 PM
have mercy
November 5, 2025 at 11:11 PM
So far a huge W for the “judging a guy based on spending 15 seconds looking at his FBref bars” community
November 5, 2025 at 8:04 PM
The unbelievably low xG has taken all the attention rightly but that’s one of the highest xGA we have ever had as well. Fbref have it as the joint 3rd worst since 17/18.
November 4, 2025 at 7:19 PM
I’ll be generous to us as other sources also using Opta have that game at 3.85. Let’s call the 3.68 (round to 3.7 on fbref vs Chelsea) as our 4th worst defensive display to separate them out as fbref said they are level.
November 4, 2025 at 9:38 AM
Hi,
can you check if you also have access to fbref via worldfootballR, or have they implemented a Cloudflare human verification that's not being bypassed? Thanks
November 4, 2025 at 6:02 AM
is there an area I can contact those who run FBref? I've been emailing for months to add "big chances created" stats to the website, but haven't heard back :(
November 4, 2025 at 4:29 AM
Just checked Fbref for most xG conceded across the 8 years of data they have us conceding 3.7 or more 3 other times.
Liverpool (H) 24/25 - 5.1 xGA
Chelsea (A) - 23/24 - 4.1 xGA (Includes a penalty + 2 reds)
Newcastle (A) - 22/23 - 3.7 xGA
