Cristian Espinoza has been one of the best players in MLS in recent years, sometimes overlooked because of San Jose's poor league finishes. Should be plenty of teams interested in him.

Website is fbref I can get a comparison graphic of the two when I get to my computer. But they couldn’t be more different in profile.

Per @fbref.com, only five players have recorded the following in a Premier League game (since 2017/18):

✪ 3+ shots on target
✪ 3+ key passes
✪ 3+ passes into penalty area
✪ 3+ carries into penalty area
✪ 3+ successful take-ons
✪ 3+ fouls won

Jérémy Doku is the youngest.

Per Zach Lowe, "just something i'm watching"...👀

Signs of variety from Brennan Johnson (?)

Rogue dribble vs EVE (1/1) & yday 2/4 successful take-ons (Last 365d per fbref he's @ .85 p90)

Also, the respectable left foot cross for Richy on 16m

Anyone else seeing this? Wishful thinking? #coys 🐓🤍

Fbref is a stats site that uses opta data. We were terrible defensively i am saying we weren't when we had the two CBs played they are that good. We are at 1.38 this season so far all in all need to wait for the update for individual players

Per FBRef, Kansas City Current players finished in 1st place in 28 different statistical categories.

Not clear the (progressive) passing really shows up in the numbers (at least on fbref) but some coverage of this on @spursiq.substack.com piece too...certainly if VdV did become a + (line-breaking) passer per HB 121 advice that would be big

Per FBref, no one has more goal-creating actions in the NWSL this season than Manaka Matsukubo's 12.

Manaka's 78 shot-creating actions also rank T-5th in the league.

Kai Wagner, Philadelphia Union, MLS 2025 regular season.

If coding seems daunting and you just want to look at a bunch of data, you can copy and paste big tables off FBref into Excel pretty easily. They have a 'combined Big 5 Leagues' table. Practice making some of your own metrics, 'passes per foul', things like that

Arsenal forced Manchester City to make 60 clearances in this match.

That’s is the most ever in the FBref database by a comfortable margin where the previous high was 53 (2016), 46 (2014), 45 (2017), 45 (2016), 40 (2017).

Arsenal's results with Merino and Rice starting together in midfield (from FBref position data).

Played 12, Won 3, drawn 5, lost 4

It's pretty obviously not super popular with the fanbase either and it is a big call from the manager.

Gravenberch has a goal and assist in the same game for the first time for Liverpool.

Only his sixth time in club football, per FBRef.

Conor Bradley has been booked in all three appearances this season. Only one player anywhere (in the FBRef database) has picked up three cards having played fewer minutes in 2025/26.

And he's up against Jack Grealish today, who'll go down at the slightest contact.

Match day! Fun fact, Spurs are currently the highest xG over-performers in the PL this season (Fbref).
This means we have been clinical in our finishing (8 goals), but also points to our attack not hitting high levels with only 4.8 XG created in 4 matches. #COYS

Oh yeah, i definitely agree the definition should improve! It’s just a bummer every single provider and company seem to use a different definition/calculation for almost all things like this

In the end if you can only use FBRef you’re limited by them

Except KA isn’t even all that good. It’s a mystifying decision to include her.

Our data--which normalizes shotstopping as goals allowed per PSxG faced, and averages the Wyscout model with the FBRef and ASA models--indicate that Arnold had been pretty good, albeit in a small sample. (1.0 G/PSxG = average, lower is better)
