#farmwashing

Farming is being celebrated across BBC FarmWatch.

But are our supermarkets helping British farmers? Or is farmwashing still going on?

Do you even know what farmwashing is?

Supermarket farmwashing, our unrealistic desire for cheap food, the fact we pay more for bottled water than a pint of milk, the supermarket stranglehold on farmers and at a whim can refuse their produce are the issues to be addressed.

Give farmers a decent livelihood & they have time for safety.

😮!! I did wonder. Do all supermarkets have fake farms? #FarmWashing

I would #BuyBritish but water companies dump #RawSewage everywhere so that's a no. I won't buy British fruit or salad.

None of these farms exist

All are works of fiction by
@Tesco
supermarkets

This #FarmWashing practice should be made illegal, it deceives consumers and makes nonsense of
@RedTractorFood
traceability

Food labelling should be clear, country of origin should be clear #BuyBritish

It can’t be seen as right or fair that farmers often receive 1p profit from the food items they produce, whilst at the same time supermarkets have pursued excessive profits. They’ve forced the value of farming produce down, and misled customers with #farmwashing
February 6, 2025 at 12:22 PM
We're also concerned about 'farmwashing' where labels suggest food is produced locally sourced, but is often imported or from megafarms. Supermarkets have forced down the value of farm produce and misled customers.

"...more needs to be done to ensure that farmers receive a fair deal, and that customers can enjoy an honest portrayal of your products..." My local MP Sean Woodcock is one of nearly 50 who have written to supermarket bosses about fair payment to farmers and farmwashing. Will it have any impact?
January 31, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Yesterday, I joined 45 other Labour MP’s from across England, Scotland and Wales in writing to the CEOs of the UK’s six largest supermarkets, calling out their unfair practices that are harming farmers.

It's time to forge a fair deal for farmers, and bring an end to #farmwashing.

With Tesco and Lidl among the retailers wading in to the farmer IHT row, as @dalevince.com points out is this really a PR stunt to cover up their less than favourable tactics towards British farmers... like farmwashing?

In response to our 'British' TV programmes article, @crediblywitless.ssrl.scot observes the common use of the Union Jack... on veg

But is this a case of supermarket farmwashing - hiding the fact that the veg is not home grown?

So you are not helping British farmers as it comes from far far away.

Yes, I'm a Riverford customer, and he's written about it a number of times. Supermarkets are a necessary evil, with a little too much emphasis on the evil. The #farmwashing issue is definitely one that people should be protesting.

Are you aware that
Guy Singh Watson is one of the drivers in the, less well publicised, supermarket #farmwashing scandal?

That's something we really ought to be protesting about.
