Unfortunately, what they added to the waves was a 1717 pirate battle surrounded by vicious hungry sea monsters. Now Stede's the captive of a mouldy maniac, spared from threats of gruesome torture only as long as he keeps sharing all the Mozart and Bach he can remember from the future, while Lucius and the kids were saved from becoming sabre-toothed shark poo by the crew of the legendary Blackbeard, who is really nothing like the stories. Sometimes you find your family in very unexpected places. And sometimes a mutiny and a velvety suit help.

I love peas usually, but this slop is a horrifying textural nightmare and I just can't do it 😅 And scraps are one name for the leftover bits of loose batter that come away from fish etc in the fryer. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scraps_(batter) I think it's a very Midlands/North thing? I grew up mostly in Leicestershire and Derbyshire and I'm just over the border in Staffordshire now, it's always been a given round here. Loads of places round these parts always ask if you want a scoop on your chips but I've never heard that further south, not sure if they still do it and you just have to ask specifically. They're usually free too because they're just waste that would get chucked out anyway, but sometimes there's a small charge. When I was a kid you could go into pretty much any chippy and they'd give you a little paper bag of scraps for nothing, but that was round the late 80s/early 90s when nobody cared about parental permission or liability or anything 😅 Anyway, mixing mushy peas and scraps together is a thing some weirdos do (textural nightmare increased!) and we always called it "snot and bits" so I'm lending that to Stede because he grew up in Staffordshire 🥰 Definitely too posh for a chippy tea, but his nanny took him sometimes so it's very much a comfort food for him.
