Hey #CriticalAnimalStudies people. I’m looing for a nice academic source that argues that our failure to see nonhuman animals as sentient individuals is a major cause of the ecological crisis or that the only way to solve the crisis is to recognise them as such, or something to that effect?

We are now inviting submissions for a second volume of the series, which aims to highlight the diversity and depth of Critical Animal Studies. We invite contributions that engage with Total Liberation as a dynamic, evolving framework—one that does not impose rigid blueprints but instead opens possibilities. We seek theoretical reflections and activist narratives, strategies for collective organizing, and experimental visions of a liberated future. In times of uncertainty, Total Liberation is not a utopian endpoint but a practice—a commitment to each other, to the earth, and to all beings struggling to break free. We particularly encourage chapters that explore the following themes: Critical Animal Studies beyond the Global North: voices from the margins Mutual aid, care, and solidarity across movements Prefigurative politics and radical world-building in animal activism The role of storytelling, art, and culture in liberation struggles Autonomous spaces, counter-institutions, + The ethics and politics of sabotage, direct action, and civil disobedience Theoretical reflections on total liberation and its critiques. Intersections of speciesism with racism, sexism, colonialism, or other forms of oppression. Case studies of activism that integrate animal, human, and environmental justice. Critical Animal Studies as a normative field of study.
