Three more from my Saturday photowalk with Henrik. His missus had bought him a day out with me, for his birthday. We explored from Higashi-ginza, up through Shintomi, Bakurocho, Asakusabashi, Okazuyokocho, Satakeyokocho.

Was all about helping him see better.

A couple of photos from the beginning my walk last Sunday. These are both in the area between Ginza and Shintomicho. Have a client in the neighbourhood so I see it often but don't really get chance to simply float around and photograph it.

Good afternoon. Fairly busy morning. Editing, admin, invoicing. Then some worrying, getting depressed & going for a quick walk to get some fresh air.

Will likely put a music mix together later, to make me feel less sorry for myself.

Went out to Anamori-inari today. Just a few stops on the Keikyu Line from our place. Light was beautiful. Had some slow time, shooting with the Hasselblad 503CW and CFV50c back. A setup with eccentricities, for sure. So it makes me shoot very differently.

The large red torii gates and the little tiny ones, which are ones that used to be in the back of one of the rooms of the shrine before they renewed it. Which people had bought for luck, then brought back to cast into a room at the end of the year. To then buy another little gate for the next new year's luck. When the shrine was renewed a few years back, they totally redesigned everything and used the old gates outside like this. Hasselblad 503CW, CFV50c digiback and Zeiss-Planar 80mm f/2.8. The way they renewed the shrine at Anamori-inari a few years ago is one of the best renewal jobs I've ever seen done on a shrine in Japan. Contemporary but not kitsch at all. Shot through the gate at the front, with the white paper zigzags - called shide (\(紙垂\) - seen tied to the rope (Shimenawa (標縄/注連縄/七五三縄, lit. 'enclosing rope'). Good morning. Fairly chilled Sunday so far. But need to sort out stuff on the balcony later. Our building is now covered in scaffolding and they're preparing to start renovating the tiles exterior. So, all sorts of annoying.

Had a nice walk for a couple of hours today, along the Tokaido Road from Shinagawa back to home. More walk than photowalk. Nice thing about the CFV50c digiback on the old Hasselblad film body: it's a camera with foibles, eccentricities. So it's far more a slow-time camera. Took 6 shots. This I like.
Apart from resizing and adding the watermark, this is a straight out of camera JPEG from the Hasselblad CFV50c digiback. Used on a 503CW body and with the 80mm f/2.8 Planar lens. Pink hydrogen bus half sticking out from its bay at the bus depot in Kita-shinagawa. Sunny moment. Loved the light and colour in the scene.

From a shoot a few years back, for Mitsubishi-FUSOP, at their Kitsuregawa proving ground in Tochigi. It's also where they keep their heritage truck collection.

A lovely day spent photographing some wonderful pieces of design.

"Aquascape" photographed down in Yokohama back in 2019. This is the surface of the Ōoka River, covered with a myriad of reflections in a palette of blue, grey, white and black. "Moonscape" - a photograph of the crescent moon over Tokyo, lined up with a crane on a building in the Toranomon district. It's dusk, the sky is a deep blue and light is still catching the edges of the building. Photographed with a Hasselblad 503CW camera, CFV50c digital back and an old Zeiss C250mm f/5.6 lens. One of the same type of lenses the Apollo space missions took to the moon. "Streetscape" - photograph of model Norie, made back in 2015. We're in backstreets between the Daimon and Shimbashi neighbourhoods of Japan. Norie stands outside an old standing bar, an old and shabby sign for Sapporo Beer is above. Beer crates behind her. She's wearing a blue and white patterned knit dress. "Cinemascape" a cinematic scene of Yangon Central Station, Myanmar, photographed back in 2018 before the coup. We see an old Japanese train, from a line I know in Tohoku, Japan. Myanmar has a lot of repurposed Japanese rolling stock. We see three platforms here and the tracks running through two of them. A young woman in a blue shirt and black slacks stands out with sharp focus as she walks towards the camera. The platforms are busy with people and there's a slight haze in the air from the humidity.

These sorts of shots are a wonderful exercise of spotting the potentiality, seeing where you could get the perfect angle and then putting yourself in it with the perfect lens.

I've had two in the past 7 or 8 years that made me really happy to nail. So, looking forward to seeing what else you get.
Putting myself in the right spot in Tokyo's Toranomon district, to get the moon looking like it's being lifted by the crane. Hasselblad 503CW, C250mm f/5.6 lens, CFV50c digital back. At Kisarazu in Chiba, Japan, on the occasion of the Wolf Moon of 2022. Walking back from the nearby shore and seeing the potential to get the bird in front of the moon. Luckily he didn't fly away. Nikkor 300mm f/4 on D800e body.

Have a CFV50c back on the 503CX. Also very nice.

The old 250mm f/5.6 I have from the 1970s is a more compact tele option. But that Schneider is a nice zoom range.
