#boardwargame
Actually, I believe there is an objective definition of "bad" in game design, which basically equals "is unplayable as designed". Relevant example: several years ago, I and @nopipbutcpip.bsky.social playtested a #boardwargame for Decision Games, ostensibly supposed to reproduce...

...which *hasn't* had the cardboard backing come loose due to the deterioration of the glue, and most of the clear plastic covers have experienced wear and tear of some sort over the last half-century. (I have somewhere between 80 to 100 SPI games in my own #boardwargame collection...

Change just a few words and this thread can be well-applied to #boardwargame collecting as well. My wargame collection currently has some 450-460 games (counting individual items in multi-game collections such as SPI's "quadrigames", many of which were sold as separate items...)

One of the problems in designing a #boardwargame on the 1940 campaign is that any competent Allied player will know this history, and will deploy their forces as much as possible to provide a substantial reserve with which to intercept any German attack through the Ardennes.

If there's any upside to the new national security strategy document from the Administration, it's that I, as a board wargamer, can think up a plausible "EU intervenes to restore constitutional liberty in America" scenario for SPI's classic #boardwargame "Invasion: America" & MB's "Fortress America"

This upcoming #boardwargame from @gmtgames.bsky.social covers the initial campaign for control of Kyiv and its environs in early 2022. D.B. Dockter is designer of "Triumph of Chaos" (Clash of Arms), on the Russian Civil War.

I wonder if I should do the same with my #boardwargame collection. I certainly have a large enough library - something like 450, in fact - to last the standard calendar year.

According to the article, this seems to be the largest-scale #boardwargame yet produced by a Chinese wargame publisher, from the picture of the maps laid out, it well merits the term "monster game". It does seem to have its shortcomings however, from the article, it seems to be nearly as complex...

That's fair, it isn't a boardwargame, but Two Rooms and a Boom has like a bajillion optional roles, and each one changes the dynamic of the game, so you're really like "what set of roles are we playing with today?" and it's really fun

I think it was legendary #boardwargame designer and military scholar/analyst James F. Dunnigan who pointed out in his book "How To Make War" (1981) that armed forces that overemphasize grooming and fancy uniforms tend to be pretty poor performers in actual warfighting.
hegseth was one of those guys who jerked off to russian propaganda videos before the ukraine war. "look how big and manly they are, surely ukraine doesn't stand a chance"

This made me chuckle. I found two copies of SPI’s Commando in my friendly local used-media shop. What’s funny is that the more expensive one has the worse-condition box. #boardwargame #ttrpg

It's hard to think of anything more niche than a doujin of a Japanese #alternatehistory (which is already pretty niche) #boardwargame which is very rare, and VERY expensive, on this side of the Pacific, but I'm looking hard at this one on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/13476198...

My own personal favorite #Tolkien illustrators in my youth were David Day (The Tolkien Bestiary) and Tim Kirk, who did the character illustrations for #SPI 's "War of the Ring" #boardwargame. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/22...

I've been thinking of new playable events for the forthcoming #boardwargame "Napoleonic World War", which @nopipbutcpip.bsky.social & I plan to complete the playtesting cycle on this coming Sunday. Several ideas I've come up with are as follows:

- Canned Food: This was developed in France...

The campaign may be re-enacted in the #boardwargame "Justinian", which is part of @gmtgames.bsky.social 's "Cataphract":

Britain was so dull and quiet in those days that this #boardwargame, for example, must be regarded as utter fiction: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/19...

Good thing for me, my own #boardwargame collection focusing on already-published games, that those are readily to be had within this country.

Some #boardwargame rules I’ve encountered in my time definitely fit.

Having my two #bunnies go wild over their breakfast pellets each morning provides me with pep to get through the day. Having a "grail" #boardwargame arrive in the mail helps finish off the day.

I am going to be posting a fair bit about alternate-historical Napoleonic-era politics and strategy for the next few weekends at least, as I am playtesting an upcoming #boardwargame treating the entire world of 1803-1816 at the grand-strategic level. First match was yesterday.

Another grail #boardwargame acquired: "A Most Fearful Sacrifice" from Flying Pig Games, designed by Herman Luttmann, map by Rick Barber (the last completed project of this illustrious game graphics artist before his passing), depicting the Battle of Gettysburg at "demi-brigade" scale...
