There's still fucking avian influenza in the chickens, there's still a fight we'll win or lose about vaccines in the next pandemic, there's still a fossil fuel treaty to win, there's still so much to do

The birds were first spotted with more than 70 found dead on athletic fields.

The Health department said final lab test results for the dead vultures found confirm the birds died from highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), H5, otherwise known as the “bird flu.”

So my brain is doing the thing. I wondering is the most recent influenza A mutation is linked to avian influenza proliferation. I think there could be a link. Still digging. May be too early to tell but this connects to a previous theory.

Emergence of D1.1 reassortant H5N1 avian influenza viruses in North America

Hoghly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV) belonging to H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b have caused high mortality since 2021.

Emergence of D1.1 reassortant H5N1 avian influenza viruses in North America
Since 2021, highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIV) belonging to H5N1 clade 2.3.4.4b have caused high mortality in North American wild birds and poultry. In 2025, a new D1.1 genotype caused two human deaths and host-switched to dairy cattle. However, the evolutionary origins and dynamics of D1.1 have not been fully characterized. Here, our phylogenetic analysis of 17,516 H5N1 genome sequences uncovers how D1.1 introduced a major shift in the antigenic diversity and ecology of the H5N1 epizootic in North America. D1.1 is the first major H5N1 genotype to (a) emerge in the Pacific flyway and spread west-to-east faster than any prior genotype; (b) antigenically shift via reassortment with the North American N1 segment, displacing the previously fixed Eurasian N1; and (c) transmit to a broader range of host species than any H5N1 genotype to date, introducing mammalian adaptations. ### Competing Interest Statement The authors have declared no competing interest. Yes and carry diseases and antibiotics residues .. they are even fed to herbivores like cows.

Feeding animal proteins back into herbivores increases the risk of pathogens, prions, Salmonella, Campylobacter, avian influenza residues, etc.

Five years on, the picture has grown even darker and stranger than most would have imagined…

I don’t have a fancy feeder but I do help my feathered friends. Avian influenza has devastated our wild bird population. They are more entertaining than aquariums. I can only photograph them from inside and the screens block a good photo. Plus it doesn’t snow here.
