@klayjamesenos.bsky.social and I have a series -- his paintings, my code -- in "about, not by; for, not from," a virtual exhibition by Unrequited Leisure, featuring work where "artists probe the cultural gravity of algorithms without surrendering authorship to them."

Okay, i think we need an alternative to NAMM. Nothing costs money. Everything defies commercial appeal. Best of show awards to the weirdest. Sign autographs with your favorite aleatoric composers. Open bar is coffee. Afterparty is more talks then a linkup to the ISS. Call it... NERDD.

i like the idea of someone obsessed with rules and rulebreaking in music who eventually heads to aleatoric music just on principle alone

Abstract: Accurate quantification of both aleatoric and epistemic uncertainties is essential when deploying Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) in high-stakes applications such as drug discovery and financial fraud [1/6 of https://arxiv.org/abs/2503.08097v1]

I would actually vote for the pre-L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E Fluxus group, all the people misusing the I Ching and taking John Cage and aleatoric generation way too seriously

@aaroth.bsky.social , to put it plainly - what is the epistemic vs aleatoric uncertainty in the unique count estimate we get out of data streaming algorithms like HyperLogLog? The question makes no sense. But the estimate is empirical and has uncertainty.

One final question :D

In the main paper, results (e.g. Fig 3a,b) are reported for uncertainty estimates inferred from eqs. 51 (aleatoric) and 52 (epistemic)?

See, I (think I) understood the space you were trying to work in here, and we need to get it into some people's heads that there are other generative means. People forget that there's been procedural noises for a lot longer than the current hype, e.g. Cage and aleatoric music, etc.

CLEAR: Calibrated Learning for Epistemic and Aleatoric Risk (Azizi, Bodik, Heiss et al) Accurate uncertainty quantification is critical for reliable predictive modeling, especially in regression tasks. Existing methods typically address either aleatoric uncertainty from measurement noise
