Processed the final batch of beans drying in the basement. Pretty happy with my harvest this year, especially compared to my one sad jar from 2024. But I’ll never beat 79¢ cans at the grocery.

Learned a lot. Next year I’ll focus on larger quantity of fewer varieties.

Here's another prolific spring beauty for zone6b. Wood Hyacinth 'White City'. These blooms are from my 2019 flower beds. They're quite lovely, just keep in mind they self propagate profusely and will take over if let be.

Our #lettuce, #spinach and #parsley doing well in the #greenhouse. Low so far 25F and lettuce still happy. #Manitowoc, WI zone6b just off Lake Michigan.

Soil test results are in! All online, and they have a cool tool where you can toggle what you want to grow for different recommendations (ex. change veggie garden to shrubs or fruit trees).

Super neat! Things are looking good. Somewhat unremarkable, but that’s fine.

Ok, I got four teeny tiny butternuts from the unexpected new growth last month.

They’re not ready to eat but they also could t stay on the vine with the frost, so now they’re inside being tiny and cute.

Bundled up to cut the Ayocote Morados down so they could finish drying on the clothesline in the basement.

Quite a few big, fuzzy pods so we’ll get some big, purple beans in several weeks.

Frost is coming, so I picked the remaining tomatoes. Hoping they’ll ripen indoors. I’m trying the banana paper bag trick.

Dang, garlic I planted 24 days ago, you must chill! You’ve gotta stay there through the whole winter 🤞.

(This is normal and totally fine and exciting! 🧄)

Fall planting is so worth it! Greens are super resilient, especially. The roots aren’t ready yet, but coming along so it was worth checking in on a few. This’ll make a nice salad to make up for all the Halloween candy I’ve eaten.

Winter is coming. The frost was so thick this morning shouts of "SNOW!!" from a very excited child echoed in my home ❄️ and my last remaining coneflower bloom has officially turned into an ice princess.

Packing and labeling soil samples from my raised veggie beds and and in-ground beds around the yard today so I can understand what’s good and what could use improvement. I’ll get access to online results in a few weeks.

Ayocote Morado finally starting to emerge as the other pole beans are dying back.

Last year I had a bunch of the plants hanging to dry in my basement because frost came before they were ready.

Planted ~50 garlic cloves and ~50 red and yellow over-winter onions today. Whew!

First time trying onions this way, so I’m excited to see what happens.

And even though I harvested a nice-sized bag of mixed greens, I’m gonna go eat an enormous cheeseburger.

The great thing about many flower seeds is you only need to buy them once. It takes a bit of time, but saving seed is worth it!

I got a ton of marigold and dwarf strawflower seeds from spent flowers (which I grew from the seed I saved last year).

Not a huge haul, but I still love seeing all these little buddies lined up. Got most of the tomatoes in before frost- a couple gallons roasted, a couple more to go! And the hoop house held the heat so we will still have more. An excellent problem in the midst of hard stuff. #gardensky #zone6b

Behold the magnificent pawpaw!

We belong to a CSA to supplement local produce, and they got their hands on these beauties, so I finally get to try!

Described as a combo of mango & banana. Some are ready now. @jasoncauley.bsky.social will make a cheesecake with the others 🤤.

Homemade pepper jam time! Used the remaining hot peppers from the garden, store-bought bell peppers, used just apple cider with no added water, and the low sugar pectin. And just before this week’s freeze warnings! 🌱🫑🌶️

Tart and spicy, just like me!

It’s harvest time! Used veggies fresh from the garden for a while, time to harvest and preserve. Bags of tomatoes in the freezer for sauce and jalapeño jam from the peppers. I’ll need to buy bell peppers since critters ate those plants. 🌱
