A West Virginia Senate committee agreed to a committee substitute packaging multiple agency rule changes (Senate Bill 374 and related items), including a new Managed Timberland certification rule, several sunset-date extensions to Aug. 1, 2031, wildlife rehabilitation permitting and removal of some horsepower restrictions on select lakes; DNR confirmed a Stone Coal Lake lease issue was resolved and asked to restore the lake to an exemption list.

A mange-inflicted squirrel was finally caught and brought to #GreenwoodWildlife after days of trying. Our team prescribed a treatment for mange, medications for pain management, and antibiotics for infection. We wish her a speedy recovery and release.

Virginia Opossum's have a hard time in the cold Ontario Winters. Luckily for this little one he was brought to Foster Forest Wildlife where he is being rehydrated, and slowly fed easily digested nutrition to avoid "refeeding" syndrome.

Certification establishes the credibility, knowledge, and professionalism of wildlife rehabilitators who set a higher standard of care. It requires 50 hours of education split between 13 different disciplines, 5000 hours of experience, you'll need to pass a test and show evidence that you are practicing legally, and pay a fee. Certification is overseen by an independent nonprofit called the Certification Review Board, which establishes the certification process and may revoke status on ethical grounds. You can learn more or apply to become a Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator at cwrexam.org! Permits and licenses provide legal permission to possess wildlife for rehabilitation purposes. The conditions to become permitted or licensed vary regionally, but often involve showing that you can meet legal requirements for housing, medical care, and human safety - and usually fees. The laws and local government that has authority over possession and take of wildlife in a region generally has authority over wildlife rehabilitation permits and licenses, and can revoke them if you break the law. To get permitted or licensed, you'll need to contact your local wildlife agency to learn the rules and requirements. You can also ask IWRC at office@theiwrc.org if you need help!
