#WIneandHoneyDoublet
Up early, working on sewing for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet. One side of the moss green goatskin provided 14 1-1/2 wide strips of leather. Time to fasten them together like bias tape and then insert the cording

8) The lining pattern is the easiest, as it is just the original pattern that was used for the toile. Then comes the underlayer pattern, with is divided into upper and lower sections. Finally the outer layer pattern will need to be different panels, upper and lower and between the piping.

Oh, did I mention I need to spend at least $80 on the special thread I'm going to need to use as well for the #WIneandHoneyDoublet?

#WineAndHoneyDoubłet, oak leaf appliques update.
Switched from a vertical alignment to a horizontal one, simplified the outline a bit more and things seem to go better. I think I can deal with this.

Back on my bullshit, dyeing some leather for the oak leaf appliques for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet.
The process starts prepping and deglazing the leather with some 70%Ethyl alcohol.

#WineAndHoneyDoubłet, I think I've got all the pattern pieces cut for the lining, underlining and outer. And with some creativity (and a 1/4 inch seam allowance) I "SHOULD" have enough leather for the outer shell and underlining.

1) So, if people are wondering why I'm not sewing full time, or taking more commissions, the material cost for the #GermanPatrician outfit is ~$750. I'm currently at ~$600-625 for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet, and the leather for that was bought at clearance or sale prices.

1) #HistoricalFashion. For those curious, this doublet at the Musei Civici Reggio Emilia is the inspiration for the appliques on the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet,, and a masterpiece of craftsmanship. It is cream leather applique over pink satin,

Well, that color variation will make laying out the pattern pieces for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet interesting.

All 5 pieces looked almost identical to start, and the same blend of dye was used for all.

And more of my bullshit, I'll be making all the leather wrapped piping for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet as well, some pieces I'll be able to machine sew, but anything that will get sewn onto the doublet will be handsewn around the 3mm hemp cord core. #SewingProject, #cosplay, #HistoricalTailoring

And I'd wear it like it was a hoodie and jeans. The #WineAndHoneyDoubłet is definitely going to be an art piece though

#SewingProject poll final. I'll get to work on the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet after I finish the #GermanPatrician outfit. The ##GermanPatrician comes first as I hope to sell that one to buy more sewing equipment and save up to get to the Renfaire more than once this year.

On some other good news, here's what $260 worth of thread looks like. Once I get the two totes repaired I'll be ready to start working on the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet.

1) Nothing else is going right in the world, waiting to hear about the 5th order I've made trying to find the right leather for refurbishing @cwalworth.bsky.social's Louis Vuitton tote, so I guess it's time to get off my ass and start the work for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet.

Did a little 4 inch test of making leather covered piping and then sewing it between 2 sections of leather.

Yeah, those colors together are going to rock.

Well, I've completed the concept for the #WineAndHoneyDoublet, using pictures of the actual leathers for the colors. Time to work on the patterns needed.

Y'all, your boy over here might be slightly unhinged or obsessed. I just dropped $250 on 8 spools of thread for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet.

(yes, I've been saving up for this for a while)

Ok, the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet has been put aside to do some bag repair. I've got the Oililly tote all disassembled, now to make patterns for the straps

🧵1) Patterning for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet. Ok this one is going to get involved.

We've started with a concept drawing (which I've mainly done for those following me, usually a lot of this work just happens in my head)

Just a quick test of how the pinking will look with the different colored leathers overlayed on each other. #WineAndHoneyDoubłet, #cosplay, #HistoricalTailoring, #RenaissanceHistory, #sewing

1) Patterning, part 2 for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet. (this is also how I work with patterns for patterned fabrics).

When working with leather, I always make a full pattern, left and right sides. This is because leather comes in odd shapes, and I can then layout to minimize waste,

It's the first of 3 planned ones, this one will be for sale. The other two can be found under the hashtags #WineAndHoneyDoubłet and #ChartreuseVelvet

That's the palette that inspired the color choices for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet
October 1, 2025 at 12:33 AM
So Tom, what are you up to on a Saturday night?

Oh, just saying some leather for the #WineAndHoneyDoubłet, since I don't have the right thread for @cwalworth.bsky.social's Oililly satchel
June 8, 2025 at 12:48 AM
I really need things in my life to stabilize so I've got the mental energy to do some sewing. That #WineAndHoneyDoubłet is just waiting in the wings. I can almost hear the leather begging to be cut.
