U.S.-China trade deal "done" - Trump
Investing.com -- The U.S. trade agreement with China is a "done" deal, U.S. Donald Trump said in a social media post, following intense talks over two days in London earlier in the week. "OUR DEAL WITH CHINA IS DONE, SUBJECT TO FINAL APPROVAL WITH PRESIDENT XI AND ME," Trump said, in a post on his Truth Social site earlier Wednesday, adding that the relationship between the two presidents is "excellent." He added that the U.S. will get the access to Chinese rare earth minerals and magnets, which his officials had been pushing for all week, while Chinese students will be allowed to use U.S. colleges and universities. The U.S. president also noted that U.S. tariffs will total 55% on Chinese goods, while Chinese duties on U.S. goods will be 10%. U.S. and Chinese officials said on Tuesday they had agreed on a framework to get their trade truce back on track, with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick saying the framework deal puts "meat on the bones" of an agreement reached last month in Geneva to ease bilateral retaliatory tariffs that had reached crushing triple-digit levels The Geneva deal had faltered over China’s curbs on critical minerals exports, prompting the Trump administration to respond with export controls of its own preventing shipments of semiconductor design software, aircraft and other goods to China. Trump’s volatile tariff policies have roiled global markets, creating uncertainty over future trade decisions as well as hitting companies severely with lost sales and higher costs.

Translation: The trade war isn’t over, but for now, the pressure’s off — and markets finally got the deescalation they were begging for.

China agreed to reduce the tariffs they raised in response to Trump’s tariffs after Trump agreed to lower his tariffs. Create a problem, surrender, then declare victory.
