Because USAID and UKAID haven't help the recipient countries as over the decades other than to just about keep them afloat.

Contrast that with China's version of aid programmes, where they do actual infrastructure delivery and establish trade.

USAID, like UKAID, has been more about soft power than anything. If we really cared, we'd go to the countries that need help and build them hospitals and infrastructure, but instead we throw cash at them like we're giving money to a vagrant.

The UK government has always known that, but only for UKAID. Cash transfers have been the most successful interventions to help people out of poverty, but it was never applied to UK people (and I am not having a go at international aid). It is the right thing to do internationally and nationally.

Problem is that the amount of £ flowing into denial and delay has sharply increased, far above the days of Lawson and Monckton and the GWPF. That's shaped Reform and Tory policy, and with them the amount of noise in the RW press. We've seen where that goes with migration. UKaid support is down too.
