The three kings arrive and present their gifts to the child Jesus: on lintel of Romanesque portal of Pieve Sant' Andrea in Pistoia.
Dated 1166, by Gruamonte, a sculptor/architect influenced by Pisa/Lucca style.
A rare portrayal, also related to Via Francigena pilgrimage.
The top of the entry to Sant' Andrea in Pistoia, featuring a green and white striped marble arch at the top with elaborate stonework border terminating in two faces, right and left. Beneath that are two lions at either side of the saint in the centre, The lintel below is supported by two detailed carved capitals with angels and other characters on green and white pillars. The lintel carving portrays, on the left, the kings on horseback carrying gifts. In the centre one person is kneeling before Herod. On the right the kings are in a line to present their gifts to Mary. A further figure with a crook is on the right side. The subject of the three kings also honours pilgrimage: Pistoia is on a branch of the Via Francigena.

At Cattedrale di San Zeno in Pistoia, Tuscany, Andrea della Robbia's remarkably small entrance makes a big impression: 1504 archivolt + portal features Virgin+child w host of angels in façade that was reconstructed 14-15th C.
Round vaulted entry portal to the cathedral has ceramic panel by Della Robia inset in radiating tiles. Panel has Virgin and child with two angels either side and two above, with a band of cherubs as a border, all with characteristic white figures on bright mid-blue background. In the vault above is a pattern of square darker blue tiles with gold flowers in relief, with pairs of small blue tiles with white leaves in relief between them. At the bottom of the image is a carved white marble architrave over the doorway.

Holy Trinity Church in Uppington is mainly a Victorian building, though it does have some earlier features. Perhaps the most remarkable is the Norman doorway, which has an 11th-century tympanum above it. Thought to be either late Saxon or Early Norman, it depicts a wonderfully Intricate dragon.

Uniquely named St Mary de Crypt in Gloucester. 12th C door renewed w Agnus Dei #tympanum in 19th C. Nice fish scaly lintel. And some fitting #IronworkThursday too.
Door with studded with iron all over and two decorative hinges. Coumns either side and a fish-scaley style lintel. The later tympanum above has the Lamb of God carrying a banner.

Chapelle St Gabriel de Tarascon in Provence now fully restored and a treasure: C12 #Romanesque with superb nested portals and reliefs.
Lower #Tympanum: Daniel and lions plus Adam and Eve; middle pediment: Annunciation; top gable oculus: four Evangelists.
Facade of Romanesque church. Doorway set back in wide arch has red door with columns either side supporting semi-circular tympanum with relief of Daniel in lions' den on left and Garden of Eden on right. This is placed under a broad triangular pediment again set on columns, with decorative Corinthian capitals. Above this in the gable of the facade is another semi-circular area with a decorative round window with the emblems of the four evangelists along the outside, at N, S, E, W positions. Detail showing tympanum and Annunciation panel above it.
