#Tracheae
They love bugs for customer service cuz humans can’t recognize rudeness in such critters. A human worker lets out a sigh and customers produce outrage. A bug sigh can be dismissed as necessary tracheae flushing cuz humans don’t know better

At least he didn't claim that plastic tracheae came to life after he poured bone marrow on them, so there's that.

PSA: uni IRBs don't approve human research by grad students without a faculty co- or senior investigator. The single grad student author-researcher should have been a red flag.

Thank you for sharing this. It is, by far, the most insane study I have ever read. Fruit flies don't have lungs.

They have small openings called spiracles along their thorax and abdomen which lead to a network of tubes called tracheae.

In contrast, HUMANS HAVE LUNGS, and US COPD is dropping.

Don't you be trying to guilt me or trip me up... You know as well as I do that crickets have a complicated respiratory process involving spiracles, tracheae and that they diffuse oxygen into their bodies.

It was the defibrillator that was the challenging bit, anyway

Stop policing women’s looks. All humans have tracheae, not just men.

I'm aware it's not a mouthbreather, actually. Also i should have said tiny muscles & tracheae, but that doesn't sound as cool.

I imagine you know about the Russian Megagrant awarded to lethal fraud and now imprisoned Paolo Macchiarini? The grant was for transplanting plastic tracheae magically brought to life by stem cell glop. Swedish TV made a documentary about how all the patients died. Won an award too.

Enter the Cerulean Sluice but hold your breath. Your tracheae won’t last long. Be alert in the murky depths, you are not alone.

While the tracheal system works well for adult insects at the size that they reach, it ultimately cannot scale to the size of other large terrestrial animals with lungs, the organism would be too heavy with tracheae at that size and diffusion would be too inefficient. 5/n

2/3🧪 🐜s are incredibly important. Depending on the study and methods used there is more weight on earth within 🐜than humans...They form the backbone of many ecosystems.
Today though we will focus on their respiratory system. How do they breathe? #science

Hopefully people will be more skeptical about lasers testing blood than they were about plastic tracheae coming to life after being marinaded in bone marrow aspirate.

Paolo Macchiarini, whose bogus stem cell tracheae killed more than a dozen people, said this.

wind-mouths are constructed somewhat like insect tracheae, or a whale's blowhole. there's a tube which draws air inward during breathing. this has an opening, which can be constricted or closed to keep out water or to shape sound. and there's an internal structure like a larynx or syrinx.
