Boktai is good but more accessible as a ROM. The sun sensor never worked for me.

Any of the F-Zero games are good.

Summonnight is a ton of fun, but not exactly short.

A bit more of an obscure mention is in Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 2 where fishing is a less battle oriented way of getting materials for crafting. It does the job well in that regard I think
