Now Haley: of course slavery was a cause of the War but she "took it further" to freedom from the government. This "States Rights" claim is also widely accepted & easily debunked. Several secession proclamations cite the failure of northern states to enforce Fugitive Slave Laws #StatesRightsMyAss
Southerners claim the War was really about "states rights" or as Haley said the role of [federal] government. The view is easily debunked with the secessionist documents themselves, which you can Google. They say it's slavery. See SC's to understand why Haley wouldn't say that out loud
