#Smallfilms
Still snowed in, so we’re having a Bagpuss day.
You can’t beat the power of imagination.
If you can’t find the stories that you want to read or watch, make your own.

We spent a pleasant day there today, but I’d struggle to come up with 100 things to do! Apart from the obvious (Cathedral, city walls, River Stour), there’s the Smallfilms Gallery at the Beaney and the remarkable Baobab plane trees

I'm hoping to do a cut-out animation based on a scene from Marco Polo in a style reminiscent of Smallfilms, but then I've always had an idea for a remake of "Terror of The Zygons" in the style of an "Ivor The Engine" episode as well.

Decided to finally commit to this "drawing" thing people do regularly, and this is what I came out with. I tried to go for a Smallfilms/Oliver Postgate inspired look here. Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Peter Firmin said in a documentary about Smallfilms that he got the idea for the character design from seeing the Lewis chessmen in the British Museum.

It’s been a good few days for new art and reference books. Now I just need a week to curl up with lots of coffee and biscuits to read them all.

I’m about halfway through the book and absolutely loving it! The Smallfilms and Trumptonshire sections made me quite emotional, even though the programmes were made before I was born [in 1975] they are such a strong memory of my childhood TV viewing.

TOTTIE - THE STORY OF A DOLL'S HOUSE (1984): Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin's Smallfilms, home to Bagpuss and The Clangers, gave us this charming series about the inhabitants of a doll's house. Young viewers weren't prepared for a favourite character's death by immolation...

It's what Smallfilms would have wanted

Smallfilms warrant separate listings

The Trumpton Three do not as all feature each others characters after series one (Camberwick)
