In my day, AI was a Selectric typewriter compared to a Smith Corona

Now I wish I had a manual transmission car just so I could mount an IBM Selectric type element as the shift knob.

Climate activists have been arguing for years that the energy transition was not only crisis, but an opportunity.

Looks like they were right all along and the IBM Selectric vendors were wrong.

In my day that was state of the art, crucible of the IBM Selectric, if you got to type on one of those babies you *had* to be living off of somebody’s high hog.

IBM Selectric typewriters have appeared in countless movies and TV shows, but no individual machine will ever be seen as many times as Stephen J. Cannell’s. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PV3s...

You know what? I have a Letter Gothic typeball from a Selectric that I bought to turn into a keyboard a few years back.

It's yours for free if you want it, just let me know how to get it to you.

I would take the cover off the IBM Selectric typewriter because I loved seeing how fast it could fling this damn thing at a piece of paper. And that hum felt like you had charged up a transformer. We used to have MACHINES.

#NowWatching: Today's documentary. Mavis didn't teach my how to type--that was the IBM Selectric in Typing class--but she definitely helped me improve.

I fucking love the electromechanical design of the IBM selectric, even if It sounds like 2 roombas having vagina sex (forgot the term). I should really put new foam so it doesn't sound like that.

Another bonus is that phones can do slow mo video now so you can easily show them how the selectric actually works. And even then it still look fast, lol

The selectric is such an incredible machine.

"This use of punctuation is a tell for AI!"

Look, I've been using em dashes since I had to type them as two hyphens on a Selectric. If your AI uses some of my punctuation faves, maybe it's because it was trained on work stolen from writers.

P.S. And we're still better at writing.

Oh Hunter!
You are missed for sure, my brother from another mother!

I wrote my first manuscript on this.

Maybe not this EXACT model, but pretty darn close. NOT electric. When I finally got my hands on an IBM Selectric, I was in heaven!

Sadly, the script, written by Altman, Frank Barhydt and Paul Dooley, was very weird. I know because I typed the screenplay on an IBM Selectric typewriter in one of the two penthouses. Many years later, President Ronald Reagan saw it at Camp David and called it "the world's worse movie."
