I mostly get by fine without a car because there's public transport in my area. I've no problem going to Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Retford, Lincoln etc, can even go directly to Leeds, but other Lincs towns are complex. Nearly all require going to Lincoln even if Lincoln's int' opposite direction.

A completed HS2 would have resolved this problem, at least as far as Newark and Retford are concerned. A great example of why we need high speed lines to free up more local capacity.

I ended up recently on a Retford to Sheffield departure that came from Cleethorpes and needless to say it was empty.

We have a trip planned to Retford some time this year to see if we can revitalise our son's love of reading with some recommendations. He used to have us read to him for 1h+ in the evening and after Y2 (with the start of Accelerated Reader) he's decided he "hates" reading.
