#ResearchIntegrity?
arXiv’s computer science category is closing the door on unvetted review and position papers.

The reason? A flood of low-quality, often AI-generated submissions.

People can appreciate science without AI?

Sorry to dunk on this but someone has to break up the chorus - qed isn't ready @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social

Do you implicitly want to send people to AI spin over the paper itself? Not what we're fighting for in #SciPub #AcademicSky #ResearchIntegrity
IT'S HAPPENING! 💥 I'm psyched to launch the collaboration between @qedscience.bsky.social & @openrxiv.bsky.social @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social! Preprint + q.e.d = your science is out there, and anyone can appreciate it. Let's care about making discoveries, and not on “getting published” (1/3) 👇

#ReneAquarius speciality is #ResearchIntegrity detective in biomedical work and bulk of those issues is with Chinese research. Great point that field specificity may be focused in specific countries. Etc. #ResearchSecurity #OAI14 #OpenScience

#ReneAquarius poses important #DoubleStandard questions re: #researchSecurity challenges are just focused in China. Many other countries are engaging in these practices and many labs benefit from these 👨‍🔬 work. Can we definitively say this activity is malign? #ResearchIntegrity #OAI14

That said, 🇨🇳 has made this a priority for their nationals abroad. 🇨🇳 researchers are monitored, have to state loyalty to CCP, and are monitored regularly. This has to be taken into account when hiring 🇨🇳 nationals in labs. #OAI14 #ResearchSecurity #ResearchIntegrity #OpenScience

Not comfortable with #OAI14 research focusing solely on Chinese researchers as examples of #ResearchSecurity #ResearchIntegrity issues. if we are going to just focus on China, we need to speak to context of WHY this is happening. Many of these students do not have any choice when working overseas.

Researchers who have lab access also have computer/network access = access to all colleagues' work. Some take that work and publish locally, representing others' work as their own.

Very difficult to determine in these cases if there's "undesirable transfer of technology" #OAI14 #ResearchSecurity #ResearchIntegrity #OpenScience - Can you determine if research theft is taking place? How? #OAI14 #ResearchSecurity #ResearchIntegrity #OpenScience

Ex 1: 🇨🇳 👨‍🔬 working globally btw "high risk" orgs in 🇨🇳 and reputable unis in 🇳🇱 - See list of 🇨🇳 orgs known to "weaponize" research - to develop weapons, engage in espionage etc. 👨‍🔬 was actually "hiding" papers never including in CV profiles etc #OAI14 #researchsecurity #ResearchIntegrity #OpenScience

What is #ResearchIntegrity <-> #Researchsecurity are linked (see his work w/ @LeslieMacintosh @digital-science.com): Security piece ONLY possible if the system itself is fully intact.

Reproducibility failure persists in biomedical research despite a decade of awareness. Promoting and celebrating methodological rigor is the answer, I think.

🚨 Peer review crisis alert! When journals reject good science simply because they can’t find enough reviewers, the whole integrity of research is on the line.

When Reviewer Scarcity Becomes a Reason for Rejection, Scientific Integrity Is at Risk
If journals reject papers due to review shortages, the peer review process itself becomes compromised.

Science is under attack from the political Right because it's 'progressive'

- constantly seeking a BETTER understanding of the world around us.

That position THREATENS 'conservatives' who regard established beliefs and institutions as MORE IMPORTANT than observable reality.

Ok, if citation impact is meant to be just citations, I vote for Vickers 2017 for huge citation/minimal actual impact #ScientificPublishing #ResearchIntegrity I'm sure it's a nice paper, but cure cancer it will not.
Youyou Tu's work on anti-malarial compounds that saved millions of lives (w/Nobel+Lasker recognition) wins the low citation/huge impact cell. The original paper has 87 citations as of today: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11721477/ Hopefully she can get to 100.

What for huge citations and moderate impact?

AI is a clear double-edged sword on image manipulation, as you can imagine. But until the "good" AI gets to be really good, human oversight is essential.
