#Refactorings
For almost fifteen years, I've been able to right-click a C++ method and select "Quick Actions And Refactorings" -> "Create Implementation" from the top menu item using Visual Assist X

Thanks for inserting your shitty chatbot into my workflow, Michaelsoft. Hope the KPIs were worth it

If you happen to be in Amsterdam at the end of November, come say "hi" at the Kotlin Dev Day, where Duncan McGregor and I will be doing 47 refactorings in 45 minutes (see kotlindevday.com/program). I will also be just hanging out with Kodee on the 28th, so happy to chat or do a code kata 🧐
Program Kotlin Dev Day 2025 - Kotlin Dev Day
We proudly announce our 2025 schedule! With 5 stages and 32 sessions there will be a lot of Kotlin on the 27th of November.

And look at this function. A deprecated argument. A vestige of refactorings past. Unmistakably human authored.

Also inhale deeply through your nose. It’s got a faint odour to it no?

There are similarities to the untrained eye. But trust me your users WILL know the difference.

Many things were done today, mostly with lighting.
And a lot of internal refactorings, obviously. Can't live without those.

But here is a static enemy that whips you when you step next to them.

But if you're speed you can outsmart them!

As of #Symfony 7.4, functional tests’ error rendering will finally get you straight to the point with a beautiful, concise output 🥳 Especially useful when doing large refactorings that make dozens of such tests fail while progressing.

To anyone in the # DevOps world, what is your text editor or IDE of choice to work with # Terraform , Terragrunt, K8s-YAML, etc.? I'm looking for something that understands the semantics of TF and K8s resources well (refactorings, usages, ...) # SRE # kubernetes

AI gets you from square one to working code.
WebStorm takes it from working to production-ready.

Curious about what this looks like in practice? @wordman.dev walks through a realistic example using WebStorm’s refactorings in this blog post 👇

From AI-Generated to Production-Ready Code: WebStorm Refactorings for the Modern Workflow | The WebStorm Blog
We've all been there. You ask your AI tool to generate a React component, and the initial result works perfectly in the beginning. The AI gives you a functional 250-line component that gets the job do

The team at the Modern Software Engineering Channel are helping me to publish a new free guide - this time for essential refactorings. There are a lot of fancy tools out there and keyboard shortcuts you could learn - and I find _these_ moves are foundational. www.subscribepage.com/mustlearncor...

Oh no, Lava! Is back on track after need of heavy refactorings..
- Caching of materials
- Better collisions, with raycasting
- Wall stick & wall jumping work!
- Improved overall architectural structure More to come!🦀👏 #rustlang #gamedev #indiedev #indiegamedev #bevyengine

In der Softwareentwicklung z.B. verzichtet man auf Tests, Doku, ordentliches Design, Refactorings usw. mit dem Ergebnis, dass man immer schlechter wartbaren und immer Fehleranfälligeren Code hat.

I noticed @jetbrains.com Webstorm doesn't have the extract method object or move static method refactorings.

Do you find IDE support in general is more limited for TS?

I've been integrating GitHub copilot in some of my hobby programming, and while it's not the developer-killer in Zuck's wettest dreams, it really speeds up the boring refactorings (especially generics stuff in Rust) as well as boilerplate in excuses of a language like JavaScript.

Hey, itsa me 😄

I'll be giving the presentation I did at ConFoo in February

🌈 REFACTORINGS 🌈

In particular, the ones you need the most for legacy code. Examples will be in TypeScript.

Context Transference One of the hardest refactorings to get right is the balance between extract and inlining of functions. Often people struggle to understand why sometimes when they "do the right thing" and extract a function, their code quality feels...

Having the agent do refactorings at scale is awesome, isn’t it? Let us do the creative piece and let it take on the mundane
April 24, 2025 at 6:37 AM
I'm thinking in other languages, key automated refactorings are missing (I think on Java and C#/Rider/Resharper have Move Method, for example - which I use a lot), so there'd have to be *some* manual refactoring involved.

(Why e.g. PyCharm or WebStorm can't just prompt for the target class...?)

So if all goes well, tomorrow will be sunny, I can finish the garden and order the lawn Monday and lay it Tuesday.

Monday I need to containerise my APIs and function and write the terraform for my azure infrastructure. I also need to record 3 episodes of my api refactorings. Find a new contract 2

No bar. It's a gradient that varies from person to person. In vibe coding situations, you'll notice when you start having to do more serious refactorings.

A single large-scale refactoring is a long sequence of small-scale refactorings :-)
