I am very happy that the Dumpster Fire that was 2025 is almost over. If you've followed The Bargain Sleuth for any length of time, but especially this year, that I read a lot of non-fiction books. This year, I've made a concerted effort to be part of the solution to many things, and that means reading about it. In a country where our First, Fourth, 13th, 14th, and 19th Amendments are under attack, my reading and writing this year has been decidedly Pro-Democracy, Pro-Environment, Pro-Human Rights, Pro-Education, and Anti-Fascism.

Douro River Valley Last month, my husband and I went to Portugal on vacation. Normally, flights from our closest airports involve layovers, usually somewhere in Europe. The first time we went, we spent a few hours at the airport in Paris. When my husband took my daughter last year, they almost missed their connecting flight in Amsterdam (due to horrendous lines at customs, and by "lines," my daughter explained, they really meant a mosh pit of humanity.
