Yoga class cancelled this evening, so I thought I'd put that tortilla press that I got for Christmas to good use. Nothing like spicy food on a chilly evening!

And I once again have to thank Carlos Coronado for inspiring me to make my own tortillas from scratch!!

Whatcha Readin' this week? Rarely for me, I'm reading these two books while listening to the album that each chapter talks about. I never listen to music and read at the same time!

With all the crap going on in the world right now, I thought everybody could use a 20 second video of a purring cat. It's amazing how therapeutic it is to pet a cat until it purrs...

(This is William Riker, a neighbour's cat whom I'm looking after for a couple of days.)

Philosophy and Terry Pratchett – Jacob M. Held and James B. South, editors

Whatcha Readin’ this week? I got this book by accident – I thought I'd put Terry Pratchett’s ‘Maskerade’ on hold, and this showed up a couple of days later. Oh, well, I took it home, and am I ever glad that I did.

A practice I've adopted in the last few days - gǎn'ēn: 感恩 is the Chinese expression for 'Gratitude'.

As a kid, I said grace before every meal. I'm now saying grace after a meal, as a way of expressing my gratitude. I also mindfully check in "Did you get enough?", which helps to avoid snacking.

Important information for all of my US friends - the link on the QR code will take you to the No Kings website, where you can find a guide to your rights. And the other side of the card is a guide to how to deal with enforcement officials.

Stand up, but keep yourselves safe.

The day started off wonderfully - woke up and worked out while listening to Dave Bainbridge's lovely album "On the Edge (of what could be)". The lyrics couldn't have been more appropriate, (“Standing on the edge of what could be/When wonder makes us fall down to our knee.”)!

Planning for 2026 - going through old notes, making new notes, making lists.

Just because it's all going to go pear-shaped on me in a couple of days doesn't mean I shouldn't take the time to figure out what I want to accomplish. :D

I've decided that this year's mantra will be 'Persistence'.
January 2, 2026 at 3:03 AM
I've been thinking about the New Year the last few days - trying to make plans, resolutions, and pick a mantra.

I still believe in humanity, in my friends, in art and creativity. I still believe in love!

And I still believe our future is worth fighting for. So charge yourselves up, everybody!

I have fully converted out of Firefox on my laptops to Waterfox, and thus far, am very pleased.

Mainly I don't need to go into the configs and keep disabling weird little AI features. The messaging from the CEO resonates well with me.

Whatcha Readin’? I’m still on my quest to read all of the Terry Pratchett “Discworld” novels in their order of publication, which brings me to “Maskerade”.

From the sublime to the ridiculous - after singing 'Messiah' on Friday night and 'Lessons and Carols' on Sunday evening, I spent all of last night dealing with what is probably either a mild case of food poisoning or a 24-hour stomach bug. Today has been spent in bed, trying to make this go away.

Coming up on Sunday, Dec. 14th, 6 pm at Plymouth Church. A moving service that tells the Christmas story through words and music, with soloists, choir, and a chamber orchestra under the direction of Raymond Trapp, in a beautiful historic church in Brooklyn.

Come find some peace among the busyness!

From "Better Together", last night's concert at Carnegie Hall in celebration of the work of the 80th UN General Assembly.

After last week's chaos, it was a balm for my soul to hear "Oh, friends - no more of these sounds!! Rather, let us give voice to what is more pleasing, and more joyful!!".
December 6, 2025 at 11:33 PM
Okay, I have to be very careful how I say this.
Tomorrow will be my first time singing in Carnegie Hall, as a member of the choir in Beethoven's 9th Symphony for a private event in celebration of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. And yes, there was some practice involved in getting there.

Whatcha readin' this week? I'm still catching up on books I've finished earlier this year. Or rather, for this week, one that I didn't finish. God, I hated this book! I disagreed with his arguments so strongly, that I found myself questioning my own opinions when they coincided with his.

Coming up in two weeks - I'll be back in Toronto, singing the solos in "Messiah" with Leslie Fagan, Catherine Wyn-Rogers, Colin Ainsworth, and my friends in the Elmer Iseler Singers. Friday, December 12th, 7:30 pm, Yorkminster Park Baptist Church.
