We did the engineering at UIUC, which I absolutely recommend. I also encourage colleges to offer such a tour-- actually seeing labs was SO COOL even for our students who aren't engineering (that trip was with our Science Olympiad team + likely Questbridge applicants so was heavy on STEM).

Completely different population, but I had some success getting our Questbridge applicants to consider smaller schools by having them list what they really thought they wanted from a college then feeding that + the QB list into ChatGPT and having it make suggestions (unprompted it added whys).
