Quebec will now assert cultural sovereignty online with new legislation - Sherbrooke Record
By Greg Duncan While you were enjoying the holiday season this past December, the Quebec government passed a law that could dictate what you watch or stream online. Bill 109…

7 FEBRUARY 1776, WATERTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS: Mercy Otis Warren “only Wish[es] that the Aquisition of Boston and Quebec may make the opening of the year 76 an Era of Glory to the arms of America, and May hand down the Name of [George] Washington and [Benedict] Arnold to the Latest posterity.”

Yesterday I was introduced to the band “Angine de Poitrine”, from Québec, and I can’t stop watching. They are truly bizarre, but also truly talented. Playing a double necked microtonal guitar while controlling a looper with your bare foot is something else

Great, which Quebec party is running on refusing equalization payments? I'll send them a donation.

Because if it's that insignificant, surely someone in proud nationalist Quebec is arguing to stop taking the money?

Or have we established what you are, and now we're just haggling on the price?

I went to high school in Quebec, whenever a book was banned we had to read it and discuss its pros, cons, and impressions.
We just didn't have enough time to keep up with the book banning in the Southern States 🤔

…even after 20 years of a sustained separatist movement in Quebec they only got to 40% and it took another 15 to get to 49.3 (which was close but not a win). Maybe if an Alberta FLQ starts up or the UCP becomes explicitly pro-separatism I’ll think different. But right now, it’s fringe bullshit
February 7, 2026 at 3:36 PM
…and this isn’t like the QC separatist movement either. That was wrapped up in the end of Duplessisism, language, the Silent Revolution and a broad transformation of how Quebec views itself. AB is about Smith, a failing corporate politician trying to fuel anger to save her corrupt, collapsing career…

Alberta has a younger population and no provincial income tax. Do you know what taxes are in quebec? If Alberta had income taxes they'd pay less in equalization. Have you ever checked how big Quebec or ontario's economies are? Alberta can keep the change.

I think 🇨🇦 deals with threats in her own way. Maurice Bouchard tried to separate Quebec. He got flesh eating disease. Yep! Even God threw his support in for our Federation. Then there was the🍁 engineer that wanted to sell a howitzer he made to Syria. He was in a car accident….roads get icy 🤷‍♂️.

how the fuck is Montreal so good when Quebec is the worst of both worlds between Anglo and European liberalism

Tucked beneath Cap Diamant, Rue Sous-le-Cap feels like Québec City whispered rather than proclaimed. One of the city’s oldest streets, it once served dockworkers, artisans, and everyday lives unfolding in the shadow of the cliff. #QuebecCity

I grew up adjacent to Quebec, and entirely separate from the content (which I also dig), I fully admit that imagining “Bien bien bien” in Jake Peralta voice is delighting me beyond all measure.
