actually, go figure, i have literally the last copy of the oxford qazaq dictionary available, and it has a pretty good description if the different sounds represented by that letter, if not in formal IPA terms

there's some (language) familial connection there--the wiki article on the sound has it present in Qaraqalpaq (which, in cyrillic, has it with a proper "ў"), Qazaq (whose cyrillic has it use у, the consonant/vowel minefield letter), and Kyrgyz, where it is a lenition allophone of /b/

and as much as i _don't_ really trust the google translate model for qazaq further than i can throw it, cross-translating from, say, english->turkish, which i trust to have a bit more decent training data, is usually enough to verify "do these phases look similar? no"
