Landed at New Jersey airbase after dark
There was a local marching band and about 100 people waiting to cheer and welcome us back
Two other VN vets and myself stopped and took a step or two backwards before proceeding past

I was in Saudi for the Pursian Gulf party
Temps there were normally in the 90+
But no humidity. You really didn't notice it

I was born without an Achilles tendon in my right leg
At age 10 surgeon split remaining tendon top and bottom, rigged it up so I'd look normal standing and walking
