#PiHole
I have a Pi running PiHole. Presumably I'd fail this 'test' despite doing a much better job.

Any reason to learn how to put an ssh key on my PiHole rather than "it'd be fun to learn"?

Not ragging on you, but I've found that folks who use PiHole are like Cotton Hill and his 50 men claim. If it can be brought up, it *will* be brought up. I don't blame 'em of course, good product, but at the same time, can't help but notice.

You have limited options in settings on some devices but need something like pihole set up on your network to really prevent constant tracking.
I Found Out My Roku Was Tracking Me, Here’s How I Stopped It
Roku devices collect more data than you think. Learn the simple settings to disable tracking and boost privacy.

Most of the time I only remember it’s on is when I’m somewhere that isn’t home and my pihole blocks something I want to look at.

Or when I’m trying to get on airplane WiFi

Browsers, like VPNs don’t make you safe by default. Good habits do. They are tools and how you use them determines how private you are.

Also consider setting up things like NextDNS and self-hosting a PiHole on your network to filter out other bad actors.

I'm not at home rn and I'm using tailscale to access my pihole in my house so I've adblocking working on my phone. Super chuffed with myself, and I can back up all the photos I take while I'm here to my server back home too 😁

you can also easily block ai domains and shit with a pihole. theres a ublock origin list, but it doesnt cover everything

Incredible how my PiHole misbehaving makes my whole internet experience actively repulsive.

Add to it my PiVPN shitting the bed and I'm in hell.

Ansonsten empfehele ich immer nen Lokalen Netzwerkweiten Blocker im HomeNET wie PiHole.

I'd sooner drink a gamer sweat and boiled piss cocktail than suffer youtube with ads.

So anyway, I'm setting up PiHole

It's over for you, ads
October 20, 2025 at 12:08 AM
Next chance I have, I'm finding a blocklist for the PiHole to clear out Temu shit. Seems to be popping up a lot now that a ton of the usual ads are failing to appear.

So the recommended thing for Windows 12 when it comes out.

PiHole to block all advertisement server IP's in/out of the network and stifle what the OS can and cannot do.

another item liberated from the black hole of our apartment: the old, unused, Raspberry Pi belonging to my gf.

that means I was finally able to take an afternoon and set up a PiHole for blocking ads and rotten no good internet bs. not bad results 10 hours in:

I have my tower plugged into my TV and had to switch to another web browser that still supports Unlock origin. If you're talking just straight TV apps. Like the built in YouTube app? Then yea you'll probably have to go the PiHole route. Would make for a good tinker stream with @loadingreadyrun.com
