Societies don't magically self-govern; they need enforced institutions: independent grassroots audit committees that actually bite, citizen-led project oversight, automated revenue systems to cut leakage, and electoral reforms to punish poor performers. Without those, dependency is engineered.

Film exploded in the 60s through the 90s was because there was a healthy ecosystem of independent theaters that could book screenings for non-studio films. It's how Roger Corman built an empire that gave some of our greatest filmmakers and performers their first jobs. That is near impossible now.

Talent is a useless concept. Varying conceptions of natural ability ("talent," e.g.) tend to mystify excellence, treating it as the inherent possession of a few; they mask the concrete actions that create outstanding performance; they avoid the work of empirical analysis and logical explanations (clear definitions, separable independent and dependent variables, and at least an attempt at establishing the temporal priority of the cause); and finally, such conceptions perpetuate the sense of innate psychological differences between high performers and other people.

The rates are set to increase from 2025.
