SAG-AFTRA warns against scammers posing as casting agents, highlighting red flags such as sending money, travel or upfront costs, paying a SAG-AFTRA fee on your behalf, or emails impersonating SAG-AFTRA staff.

SAG-AFTRA Statement on the Arrest of Journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort SAG-AFTRA condemns the arrest of member Don Lemon as well as independent journalist Georgia Fort by federal agents in connection with their reporting on events in Minnesota. SAG-AFTRA represents broadcast journalists across the country who perform the essential function of documenting and reporting on newsworthy events as they unfold. The First Amendment protects this vital work, and any attempt to criminalize constitutionally protected journalism threatens not only our members but the fundamental democratic principle of a free press. We will be monitoring this case closely.

Message to Members: National Day of Action. Too many times throughout the history of our nation, the government has resorted to violence against our own people. Whether it's civil rights activists, labor organizers or political movements, civilians have borne the brunt of bad decisions made by government leaders who fail to make public safety a priority. It is the responsibility of our union to speak up when the lives and well-being of our members are threatened. There is simply no need for militarized intervention to carry out immigration policy. It is unacceptable for federal authorities to terrorize communities. The chaos and violence in Minnesota is abhorrent, and it must end. SAG-AFTRA stands with our labor siblings around the country. We rededicate ourselves to living in respectful cooperation with civil law enforcement, even as our members raise their voices in peaceful protest. We honor and commend the work of SAG-AFTRA broadcast journalists both in the Twin Cities and nationwide who are putting their personal safety on the line to keep the public informed. Finally, the union is aware of and recognizes the National Day of Action called for tomorrow, Jan. 30, 2026. It is important to note that the Day of Action is not a labor strike. If you are employed on a SAG-AFTRA-covered project and are contracted to work, failing to report to work could subject you to legal action for breach of contract. We appreciate that our members may personally choose to safely take part in important actions like these calling for the restoration of our country’s most cherished democratic ideals.
