Harvesting the last of the courgettes and planting winter greens as pūtakitaki (paradise ducks) fly loudly past and pukekõ yell at each other in the paddock behind the house.

This morning's dawn chorus is all blackbirds and song thrushes according to my app. But, also, the app tells me that it can identify about 38% of potential birds in my neighbourhood and definitely didn't pick up the Pūtakitaki/Paradise ducks flying over, quacking enthusiastically.

The world feels like it is made of light and air this morning - the dog bounding from the sofa, a pair of pūtakitaki swooping over the valley, the tree thinking about starting to bud.
