#Ouachitas
The Ouachitas were just past peak; the autumnal tones rich but understated— how is it that they look so blue in the distance? A few yellow maples palmed the light my way in Hot Springs. The white roofs of the Mission-style bathhouses were cradled in their valley by the amber canopy. 11/15/25

Afterward: vistas.

The Talimena National Scenic Byway had several places to stop and look at trees.

The mountains are the Ouachitas. They were much taller back in the Paleozoic, but then 300,000,000 years of erosion happened.

Pine rows, pasture fences, and an easy two-lane cadence—come along AR-229 from Leola to Poyen. It’s everyday Ouachita edge country, steady and unhurried.

Just so y’all know:

I don’t like being told “sorry” or “my condolences” when y’all learn I live in Arkansas

I like living in Arkansas
I like the delta and the ozarks and the ouachitas
I don’t need to be told how y’all think it’s bad I live here

It’s my impression that it wasn’t as expensive to litigate as we think. My family in the Ouachitas took their case to SCOTUS 20 some years later (with a former CSA soldier representing them) And they were hill country farmers.

PATCHY FROST🥶 It won't be much, but there could be a few spots that get cold enough for patchy frost to develop Friday morning.

Frost Advisories have been issued across parts of the Ozarks and Ouachitas where we slip into the upper 30s, perhaps cold enough for frost. #ARwx

Little Rock being the nexus of three regions feels right. Just to the east is the delta, south and southwest is pine trees for like forever and just to its nw is the start of the ouachitas and ozarks

Absolutely me returning to Arkansas after 9 years in the Rockies. The Ozarks and Ouachitas are beautiful but barely seem like mountains by comparison.

Central Arkansas fits nicely into one district. Northwest Arkansas and the River Valley fits nicely into another district. The Delta is kept whole, and the rest of the Ozarks and Ouachitas are kept whole. All four incumbents are kept in their seats. It's really the perfect map...

Lots of room in the Ouachitas, and if this guy is anything to go by, a Palestinian state might improve the education level, BMI statistics, and quality of dental work.

No "mountains" per se, but a couple of mountain ranges (the Wichitas and Ouachitas) and Black Mesa, the highest point in the state at nearly 4700 ft. #HATM

Here's an underrated state to visit: Arkansas. The Ozarks are lovely. Someday I hope to hit the Ouachitas too.

I've never seen water this blue-green outside of glacial runoff. According to the USFS sign, it's due to a combo of iron, manganese, and sulfur. (I was tempted to take a sample to test.)
