Elgato Facecam (base model) is what I use and its never failed me, about $200 but I think its good enough for me to have for a really long while without the need for a full dslr
Ive also heard good things about the obsbot cameras on YT but have no personal experience

Totally get that. I've done a few firmware upgrades for my webcam (OBSbot) using a VM with Windows. I cringe every time LOL! I've found Windows updates take too long, recently I updated like 6 of my Linux machines in the time it took to make a pot of coffee. My Windows machine took hours...

Be sure to check the OBSBOT website for firmware update at least once a month, some versions contain accuracy responsiveness improvements.
I should point out that the control app has been very iffy when it comes to actually downloading the firmware image that you sometimes have to do it manually.

Very happy with the video quality and auto-tracking/focus/exposure of the OBSbot Tiny 2, and the audio quality, pregain, and line monitoring for the Maono 300
Only problem I have now is my internet connection. Spectrum is just not reliable for upload, but Gfiber still isn't available
