I love this image shared by @okhistory of Te Ata who was born on this date in 1895 in Emet, Indian Territory. As a Chickasaw storyteller, she traveled extensively and performed for U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Britain's royalty. She died in 1995.

Mary Caroline Cole (1912–1991) of Tulsa was the FIRST woman to become a licensed #architect in #Oklahoma!

Initially Cole had trouble breaking into this male-dominated field, but she eventually had a successful career & created new opportunities for other female architects. (@okhistory / X)

A massive mine explosion leaves nearly 100 dead in Krebs, Oklahoma, on January 7, 1892. The disaster, the worst mining catastrophe in Oklahoma’s history, was mainly due to the mine owner’s emphasis on profits over safety. www.history.com/this-day-in-... #OKhistory
