Wallace's Hawk-Eagle (Nisaetus nanus) bat hunting technique. Will fly into stream of bat exiting the caves, snag the wing of a bat with the claw (occasionally the beak) and feed on it.

Bat Hawk (Macheiramphus alcinus) will dive into stream of bats exiting cave, catch one in claws, transfer between claws to kill it, then swallow whole while flying. Has a large gape.

The darker blue back/richer breast is more accurate to the bird plumage colours. Male seen on a moss surface. Both images were processed with identical settings. This second image taken at ISO 16,000, 1/160 sec (light was poor at this time). Plumage lighter & less accurate.
