Without DOGE being able to go full hog in gutting govt services - in turn, it meant that Musk was no longer able to takeover these same contracts promises to him by DJT as quid pro quo in financing his campaign.
The sour-puss face reflects this and the loss in Tesla sales from brand destruction.

Musk Stepping Back from DOGE As a result of that earings call and the abysmal performance of Tesla as a brand, Musk also announced that he would be stepping back from DOGE to focus on his failing car company instead. This is a hilarious promise and it's sad that he thinks we would believe it. Let's remember that he has been promising that self-driving cars are only 12 months away... for a decade. Even if he steps back, the damage is done and his goons are still wreaking havoc. Let's keep showing up until this nonsense stops and we can start to rebuild. You probably have heard that on the Tesla Q1 earings call this past Tuesday (the 22nd) that sales are down 71 percent. There are many possible reasons for this outcome. It's telling that on the call, Musk claimed that protestors involved in Tesla Takedown are either a) aid (b whom?) or b victims DOGE's ridding of "waste, fraud of and abuse" in the federal goverment. Both are laughable explanations that reveal an inability to consider the motivations of others. (Again, think of the how he engages so simplistically with narratives in film or literature.) The point is that these protests are working and they are frustrating him, which is delightful.

I photographed the #TeslaTakedown protest in Council Bluffs, Iowa yesterday.

Protestors were peaceful and police seemed to only give a warning about parking. Two passing drivers Nazi saluted and many others raised the middle finger, but most who drove by honked, waved, and cheered in support.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is next — if they’re not there already. His access to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau gives him insider knowledge of fintech startups competing with his X Money platform, while FDA clinical trial data offers a roadmap to outmaneuver rivals of Neuralink’s brain implants. This isn’t innovation — it’s theft. Consolidating Power, Eliminating Oversight Musk isn’t just seizing data — he’s consolidating power. His companies, SpaceX, Tesla, and Starlink, are securing massive federal contracts. The FAA has already agreed to upgrade its IT systems using Starlink. At the same time, Musk is dismantling regulatory agencies that could hold him accountable. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is gone.
