Floyd ‘If You Don’t Hear It From Me First’ Mayweather Silent on Manny Pacquiao
Floyd Mayweather, boxing’s undefeated icon, remains characteristically silent amid renewed chatter about a potential rematch with Manny Pacquiao. Known for his cautious approach to rumors, Mayweather has consistently warned the media and fans alike: “If you don’t hear it from me first, then don’t believe it.” True to form, he has not uttered a single word regarding Pacquiao’s latest claims that negotiations for a 2026 showdown are underway. Pacquiao Pushing for a Rematch Manny Pacquiao, the 46-year-old Filipino legend, has been openly discussing a return to face Mayweather. Speaking from Manila in his role as Vice President of the International Boxing Association (IBA), Pacquiao confirmed that discussions are ongoing. “I’m open [to the rematch with Mayweather Jr.] and there’s an ongoing negotiation. I am speaking [to my team] every day. If that negotiation goes well and the fight materializes, then we will announce the rematch,” he said. Pacquiao also hinted at timing and location, suggesting a likely April 2026 bout in Las Vegas, potentially under the IBA Pro World Title banner. The Filipino star emphasized that he is fit and ready, having recently defeated WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, and dismissed any lingering concerns about his shoulder from previous fights. Mayweather Weighs Money Over Legacy While Pacquiao actively engages with the media about the rematch, Mayweather’s silence speaks volumes. Reports indicate that the five-division world champion is monitoring opportunities, from exhibitions with Mike Tyson to other ventures, with profit often dictating his decisions. The logic is simple: a rematch with Pacquiao could never eclipse the record-breaking 2015 “Fight of the Century,” which generated over 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and more than $600 million in revenue. However, a sequel in 2026 could set new benchmarks in streaming viewership and earnings, particularly with platforms like Netflix or other major broadcasters involved. Undoubtedly, Mayweather will want to maintain his reputation as the ultimate opportunist in the sport. Past Negotiations and Obstacles Efforts to stage a sequel to MayPac 2015 have been ongoing for years. Offers from Saudi Arabia and Japan all stalled due to logistical hurdles, streaming rights, and financial terms. WBN firmly believes that both fighters remain open to the idea under the right conditions, yet no finalized agreement has been reached. One complication is Mayweather’s careful protection of his unbeaten 50-0 record. A professional bout carries risk, which makes exhibitions more attractive unless the financial package is overwhelmingly lucrative. Exhibitions vs. Professional Fights Pacquiao has also floated the possibility of an exhibition against retired eight-weight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko. However, he stressed that his focus is on a real fight with Mayweather: “There’s a negotiation with Lomachenko for an exhibition. It would be just an exhibition, not a real fight. But the Mayweather thing that we are negotiating right now is a real fight.” For Mayweather, the choice between an exhibition with Tyson and a blockbuster rematch with Pacquiao seems obvious — the latter offers a nine-figure payday and a chance to revisit one of boxing’s most profitable rivalries. Legacy, Cash, and Timing With Pacquiao ready and willing, the ball is in Mayweather’s court. Fans and promoters alike are anxiously waiting to see if “Money” Mayweather will finally break his silence and commit to what could be the most lucrative rematch in combat sports history. Until then, the legendary champion remains true to his mantra: unless it comes directly from him, it’s just speculation. And in the world of Floyd Mayweather, rumors are never worth acknowledging publicly — only verified deals and signed contracts command his attention. World Boxing News will continue to closely monitor this story, providing verified updates as negotiations progress. Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2: Date and Venue Set for 2026 Rematch
Floyd Mayweather, boxing’s undefeated icon, sits at the very top of the conversation as fans and promoters anticipate what could be the most lucrative rematch in combat sports history. Talks have confirmed a 2026 showdown between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, with the bout expected to take place in April in Las Vegas. This clash promises to rival, and possibly surpass, their legendary 2015 encounter as Pacquiao all but ends hopes of another world title shot. Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 Date and Venue The 46-year-old Filipino legend, speaking from Manila in his new role as Vice President of the International Boxing Association (IBA), confirmed that negotiations with Mayweather are ongoing. “I’m open [to the rematch with Mayweather Jr.] and there’s an ongoing negotiation. I am speaking [to my team] every day. If that negotiation goes well and the fight materializes, then we will announce the rematch. “It’s a very interesting fight. I feel like we are almost in agreement with each other. There are a lot of things we agree on, but there are just a few conditions we are still negotiating. If the fight happens, it will probably happen in Las Vegas,” Pacquiao said. The original MayPac 2015 “Fight of the Century” generated 4.6 million pay-per-view buys and over $600 million in revenue, though controversy lingered over Pacquiao’s undisclosed shoulder injury and Mayweather’s tactical approach. A potential April 2026 clash, possibly under the IBA Pro World Title banner, could eclipse those figures, setting a new benchmark for viewership and earnings in boxing history. Pacquiao’s Vision for Boxing While Mayweather dominates headlines, Pacquiao used his first address as IBA Vice President to promote inclusivity in the boxing world, offering a record $8.32 million prize pool and opportunities for grassroots talent worldwide. “This is about supporting the next generation at the grassroots level and helping young fighters,” Pacquiao said, as the world awaits further news on the Mayweather fight. Looking Ahead Pacquiao’s career in the sport remains at the forefront. After a stunning comeback against WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios, he has pushed the rematch with Mayweather as a priority – a final chapter for two of boxing’s greatest stars. If negotiations succeed, WBN understands that fans can expect a Las Vegas showdown in April that could redefine the sport, both in global interest and financial scale – the final passing of the torch. Mike Tyson and Pacquiao are the losers as Mayweather follows the money.

Mike Tyson and Pacquiao the losers as Floyd Mayweather cashes in again
As rival Manny Pacquiao edged toward history this summer, defeating Mario Barrios to claim the WBC welterweight title, Mayweather was reportedly watching closely. Dollar signs would have flashed before his eyes as Pacquiao’s resurgence opened the door for one of boxing’s most lucrative rematches — and the perfect excuse to sidestep Mike Tyson’s proposed exhibition. Mayweather has once again proven that when opportunity meets profit, sentiment doesn’t stand a chance. Pacquiao: ‘Negotiations Are Happening Right Now’ Pacquiao confirmed that Mayweather is ready to blow off the Tyson clash —at least for the immediate future —in favor of reigniting his rivalry this April—a fight that could bring him at least $50 million, plus additional bonuses if Netflix becomes the broadcast partner. It’s the nature of the beast: when money moves, Mayweather follows. Pacquiao confirmed ongoing talks in a new interview with Seconds Out during the Thrilla in Manila anniversary event in the Philippines. “Right now, a Mayweather rematch is in negotiations. My people and his people are directly coordinating,” Pacquiao told the outlet. “Now I don’t have a shoulder problem, so it’s a good fight. I’m sure the world of boxing will be excited if the rematch goes through.” Lomachenko Exhibition Also in the Works In addition, the eight-weight boxing legend stated that he’s also considering an exhibition with Vasiliy Lomachenko. WBN reported exclusively in the past that Top Rank boss Bob Arum had looked into staging that fight on more than one occasion. At the time, the weight was a factor. However, with Lomachenko retired and looking bulkier than ever during the WBO Convention in Bogota this week, it’s possible a welterweight battle could happen outside the professional realm. “On Lomachenko v Pacquiao, we can never say never. But I mean you don’t take a guy who’s 126lbs and have him fight at 147lbs against Pacquiao – or even a catchweight of 144 lbs,” Arum exclusively told World Boxing News. “You don’t do that because when he’s walking around (at 144). That’s the weight Loma is,” he added, when promoting Pacquiao’s career. Airing his views in an update, Pacquiao said, “There’s also a negotiation with Lomachenko for an exhibition. It would be just an exhibition, not a real fight. But the Mayweather thing that we are negotiating right now is a real fight.” Money vs. Legacy: Mayweather’s Easiest Decision Yet For Mayweather, the choice between an exhibition with Tyson and a full-scale showdown with Pacquiao isn’t complicated. One offers nostalgia; the other, a nine-figure payday. With the pair’s 2015 megafight still holding the record as the highest-grossing bout in boxing history, a sequel on streaming platforms could redefine how modern superfights are monetized — and reaffirm that in the business of boxing, cash remains king. Despite Tyson and Pacquiao holding long-standing plans, one in the exhibition arena and the other aiming for a record-breaking world title feat in the 147-pound ranks, Mayweather ended any glory hunt instantly by simply waving his checkbook. If he agrees to the terms with Mayweather, Pacquiao will probably never get another world title shot. He would also be unable to match Mayweather’s feat of beating the most world champions in their careers, as the Filipino great only needs one victory to tie, unless, of course, he beats his nemesis. For Tyson, his next big boxing payday would be on hold indefinitely. As ever, where there are significant bundles of cash to be made, ‘Money’ Mayweather remains the ultimate opportunist.
