Actually this song is only Lennon & McCartney on all the instruments. (for instance, it's Paul on drums) Harrison & Starr weren't present. It's just about the final time they're on tape together.

What Goes On was, of course, dusted off, slightly rewritten and pressed into service as the Ringo track for Rubber Soul. Ringo contributed to the rewrite, resulting in a unique Lennon-McCartney-Starkey credit, Ringo's first writing credit ever. tidal.com/track/551632...

The hill I will die on is that Kirsty MacColl's songwriting was easily the equal of Lennon/McCartney, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan.

Me and my late wife Vickie after a show at Chicago's Double Door. She was a sweetheart, in addition to being massively talented and dying a hero saving her sons.

Tara Browne, a friend of Paul McCartney and John Lennon, died in a car accident. This incident sparked the inspiration for some lyrics in The Beatles' "A Day In The Life."

We know What Goes On had been around since 1963, so I figure if there was another original Lennon-McCartney song which they planned to give to Ringo, but which never came out at all, we'd have heard about it at some point. But as I say, it's just my theory.

Ringo's track was going to be Matchbox, but somewhere along the way they decided not to put any covers on the LP and it was diverted onto an EP. They were planning to record another song during the last session, and it seems likely to me this was going to be a Lennon-McCartney-penned song for Ringo.

OK so if Chilton and Bell are the shadow world Lennon-McCartney, and not arguing, what does that make Stamey & Holsapple?

A new book by popular culture expert @profkirsty.bsky.social challenges the idea of a traditional music autobiography by studying how musicians narrate their lives, from Taylor Swift’s Instagram posts to the childhood homes of Lennon and McCartney.

All studio albums complete. Guess I will move on to the Lennon and McCartney solo stuff. (I am a Harrison nut so I dont really have to revisit his solo work)
Today I start the unpopular task of going through the unpopular band The Beatles discography.

A miracle of shuddering genius and shambling happenstance, Big Star’s ‘#1 Record’ weaves together the eight-miles-high jangle of the Byrds, the charisma of Marc Bolan and the diamond hard majesty of Memphis blues. Alex Chilton and Chris Bell are the shadow world Lennon-McCartney. Hard odds. Hold on.

i like a lot of big boi's solo work, he's never done any music that ruined his legacy, he's stayed grinding respectably. and i love andre's artsier stuff in its own way. but man they were special together. kinda like lennon and mccartney. both had great solo stuff, no denying it, but together...
